Hello September! - Gunung Datuk Trip

Gunung Datuk Trip (21-22 September 2018)

Okay, so after a few cancelled hiking trips, at last this one was confirmed and finalised! Those few that were cancelled was because there weren't enough people to make up a bus/a van. Quite disappointed, but it's okay :).

Standing at 800+m tall, Gunung Datuk for me was bearable. I still think that the most memorable or worst hiking trip was the one to Gunung Angsi, and that's like the first ever mountain hike ever. Because of this Angsi trip, my cousin is never going hiking with me again. :( HAHA.

So, for Gunung Datuk, the hike up was okay...There were a lot of rocks, fallen trees, branches..quite exciting. It was a steep climb all the way up. Very tiring especially when these legs have not gone through much exercise/ stretching since the last hike. Oh anyway, we reached at Gunung Datuk at around 4 plus am.

When we reached, there was another group of people also preparing to hike up Gunung Datuk..probably Malaysians. So, we hiked up in the dark..with our headlamps. It was pitch dark. I think I prefer to hike up in the dark because, firstly we can't really see how far ahead we have to climb before we reached the peak. Then the weather wasn't that hot because the sun was not up yet. So it was quite a cooling climb up. Still sweating a lot though because climbing usually is the most tiring (for me).  So basically we were scrambling up the mountain in the dark..Asilah (my climbing partner) was quite fast, wah not bad this girl..haha I was like with the last few people behind. But eventually at one point Asilah and I hiked up together till we reached the peak.

The ground was damp, but still okay to hike. Heard from one of our guides that it was raining the night before. It would be very scary to hike in the dark, and when it's raining. Just so prone to accidents or mishaps. But alhamdulillah weather is good to go :)

We had a few stops before we reached the top. At about 5+am later, we finally got to the top flat surface of the mountain. We have to climb further up 3 huge huge rocks that has been equipped with ladders to reach the top peak of the mountain. At the flat surface of the mountain, all of us rested for awhile..There were quite a lot of people just hanging out there before going up the rocks to catch the sunrise..

At one point, Asilah got shaken cose she got bitten by some insects along the way up. Her finger felt numb and she was quiet all the way, which was not her at all, probably worried she's going to have her finger amputated. haha. But soon enough, she was okay, and got back to her noisy quirky self. lol.

At around 6+am, we climbed the ladders up to the peak of the mountain, and just sat at the rocks. The view up there was magnificent... totally worth the pain and the sweat. Always feels so so good when we managed to conquer a mountain. Felt so proud of myself for  not giving up even though I've climbed more than 2 mountains before this. Each and every mountain is different and poses different challenges. :)

The view was great but Asilah and I just sat at one corner, and try not to move around that much cose the space is so small and there were quite a lot of people..AND it's like so dangerous if we go too far infront, cose there were no barriers. One slip, and there we go tumbling off the cliff. Scary like that.

We sat there and took some pictures with the big group that we hiked up with..then hanged around there for an hour or 2 before hiking down.

Ok. Hiking down was a pain in the ass. Eh no, the legs. OMGGG I just wanted to get over and done with. For some reason, hiking down took a longer time than when we climbed up. It was really a test of our legs. The ground was quite slippery at some parts..By the time we went down, the sun was already up, so I could basically see the route that we took.. like omg la.

Took us like 3 hours to finally get to the bottom of the mountain. By the time we reached, my knees were ready to give away. hahah. Crazy tired. Because we were the last fews, we skipped changing /bathing at that place cose not bothered and the facilities wasn't really tip top there. Got into the van to the next pit stop to bathe and change for those who haven't. Then continued our way to YomPeng ?
I forgot the name of the street, but it was at Malacca. Went to eat..and then just walked along the streets. It's like a street for the tourists because there's a lot of souvenir and what not. Nothing much to buy though.

Then at arnd 3 pm, we headed back home. Reached SG arnd 6plus pm. Good timing to be back, and there was no jam also. That's all for my journey to Gunung Datuk!

It was a much needed get away trip!

Will upload some pictures when I feel like it, HAHA.

Okie byebye.
Much love.
